A rare cold snap hit Southwest Florida on Friday, bringing cold air to the normally warm region.
Despite the drop in temperatures, locals and tourists alike continued to enjoy the sun on Fort Myers Beach.
Visitors from Kansas City, Jake Sitler and Kim Sitler, shared their thoughts on the weather.
“Does cold weather really exist? Because I really don’t think we have cold weather here,” Jake Sittler said. “They just don’t know. They don’t really understand what cold weather is. So it’s okay. We’ll come and enjoy it.”
“We love visiting Florida. So yeah, we’re excited to be here. The weather is great and we’re enjoying every day before we have to go back to the cold,” Kim Sitler said.
For local residents, the cold snap brought a different perspective.
“I think I woke up in the middle of the night last night and thought, oh my gosh, it’s going to be 40 degrees tomorrow morning,” said Marcel Chartier, food and beverage director at Diamond Head Beach Resort. “How can we please our guests around the beach and give them a place to go?”
Diamond Head Resort adjusted by closing cabanas and opening warm spots indoors. However, the beach bar reopened after the days warmed up.
Resort guests Casey and Beau Adler from South Dakota expressed the beautiful weather.
Bo Adler said, “I don’t think it’s cold. It’s warm and comfortable.”
“Yeah, I think that’s really funny because being from South Dakota, it’s always so cold. So we thought it was hot, like we just got out of the pool, and we thought it was sunny and nice,” Casey Adler said.
Bo Adler had a message for people in Southwest Florida who are feeling the cold weather.
“Fair enough,” Bo Adler said.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the 70s this weekend, providing some relief for those hoping for warmer weather.
