SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WKOW) — The Wake Up Wisconsin crew will be live in Sun Prairie during the 78th Annual Groundhog Day Prophecies in Cannery Square on Monday (February 2).

Residents and visitors are encouraged to gather early to see if Jimmy the Groundhog predicts six more weeks of winter or early spring.

27 News Anchor Dana Fulton and 27 Storm Track Meteorologist Emma Hietopas will officiate the ceremony. After “Wake Up Wisconsin” ends just before 7 a.m., the livestream will be briefly interrupted before the event continues. The forecast calls for sunrise at 7:11 a.m.

The morning will begin with the color guard singing the national anthem, followed by a proclamation from Sun Prairie Mayor Steve Stocker. State Sen. Melissa Ratcliffe then submitted a gubernatorial proclamation that would designate the day as Groundhog Day in Wisconsin.

“Are you ready to celebrate Groundhog Day in the Groundhog Capital of the World?” said Jade Pekol, Community Events and Development Manager. “You only get a chance to meet Jimmy once a year, so come check out his predictions!”

Prior to the event, Sun Prairie will host its annual Frozen Fest from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, featuring family-friendly activities such as ice carving, a winter beer garden, and a pancake breakfast.
