Atalanta BC and Juventus will face off in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia in Bergamo on Thursday night.

After defeating La Dea to win their 15th trophy in 2024, Juve will now be in contention for a draw in the semi-finals with either Lazio or holders Bologna.

Atalanta’s recent successes, particularly winning the Europa League, date back to 1963.

Bergamaschi, who won the title from Juventus two years ago, started the season with an impressive 4-0 win over Genoa in the last 16, one of several strong performances since Raffaele Palladino took over as manager.

Atalanta have moved up the table with 23 points from 12 league games and secured a clean sheet on Sunday, their seventh clean sheet of his reign.

Paladino’s side, who visited fellow top-six contenders Como, played almost the entire game with 10 men after Honest Ahanoglu’s early sending off, and held out for a goalless draw with only consecutive saves from Marco Carnesecchi.

sitting 7th Serie ALa Dea’s only major setback since the start of the year was losing the final two games of the league phase in the Champions League and falling into the play-offs.

Before facing Borussia Dortmund for the second time in a row in Europe’s top competition, the Nerazzurri must first play two league games, before facing a tough cup competition.

Atalanta may have won seven of their nine home games under former Juventus winger Paladino, who now has his old club in Bergamo, but Juve are busy rebuilding themselves.

A lot has changed since the two teams ended in a 1-1 league draw in September, with changes in head coaches at both clubs having had a big impact.

One of Luciano Spalletti’s first wins as Bianconeri manager came on the eve of the Coppa Italia, when Juve beat Udinese 2-0 in Turin.

Following their success in early December, they have emerged into Italy’s top four with growing confidence and a clear identity.

Additionally, Juventus, who have safely advanced to the final round of the Champions League, have performed particularly well over the past two weeks, losing only twice in all competitions under Spalletti.

After defeating Benfica and Serie A champions Napoli in quick succession, and a draw with Monaco in midweek, they cruised to victory on Sunday with defensive rock Bremer scoring twice to put them four goals ahead of Parma.

However, Juve’s February schedule will only get tougher from there. After facing Atalanta, they will face Lazio and Como on either side of the Derby d’Italia, before locking up both legs of the Champions League play-off with Galatasaray.

After a battle of attrition in Como (where they managed to survive an 80-minute siege and 25 shots), Atalanta are likely to make changes, and it remains to be seen whether 17-year-old centre-back Ahanoğlu will be forgiven such a costly red card so soon.

Goalkeeper Carnesecchi, who was branded an “alien” by the Italian media for his shot-stopping heroics on Sunday, has conceded just one goal in 2026.

With La Dea reduced to 10 players, Gianluca Scamacca was sidelined, but he can now compete with Nikola Krstović for a starting spot up front. Recent signing Giacomo Raspadori replaces Atletico Madrid’s Ademola Lookman and is also expected to feature in the final third.

Only the long-term absentee Mitchell Bakker will be absent for the hosts, while Juventus are still without two strikers, with key player Kenan Yildiz having some concerns due to a mild adductor strain.

Dusan Vlahovic, who scored the winning goal in the 2024 final against Atalanta, remains on the sidelines along with the forgotten man Arkadiusz Milik.

Vlahovic has been sidelined for some time, but Jonathan David has scored four goals in Serie A so far in 2026, and Weston McKennie has scored six goals in all competitions since Spalletti arrived in October.

Bremer, on the other hand, will be a big threat from set pieces. No central defender has scored more goals in Europe’s top five leagues since 2019, including his brace against Parma. Fellow Brazilian Gabriel Magalhaes also registered 21.

Atalanta BC’s projected starting lineup:

Carne secchi. Gym City, Hien, Kolasinac. Zappacosta, de Roon, Edelson, Zalewski. De quetelaere, raspadori. Scamacca

Juventus’ expected starting lineup:

Perrin. Karl, Bremer, Gatti, Kabal. Locatelli, Coop Miners. Zeglova, McKennie, Miletti. david

Atalanta BC 0-1 Juventus

Juventus have won four of their last five away games in Serie A, but Atalanta have found it much harder to win on home soil. Therefore, one blow could split the two teams, as in the 2024 Coppa Italia final.

Andrea Cambiaso’s bizarre own goal against Parma is one of only four goals Juve have conceded in their last 10 games, so the Old Lady could beat La Dea.
