Atlético Madrid announce signing of Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman

This comes after Atlético announced on Sunday that they had reached an agreement with the Serie A side to sign the Nigeria forward.

Atlético said, “The contract is subject to his passing a medical check and agreeing to formalize the contract,” but did not provide further details.

On Monday, Atalanta released a statement: “Atalanta BC announces the permanent transfer of Ademola Lookman to Atlético Madrid.”

“The 28-year-old Nigeria international is leaving the club after three and a half seasons with the Nerazzurri.”

The 28-year-old played for Fulham and Leicester before joining Atalanta in 2022. He previously played for RB Leipzig and Everton.

Lookman scored three goals for Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations, but the team lost on penalties to Morocco in the semi-finals and finished third.

After 22 games, Atlético are third in La Liga, nine points behind second-placed Real Madrid and 10 points behind leaders Barcelona.

Diego Simeone’s side will face Club Brugge in the Champions League play-offs later this month.
