ATP Adelaide Day 3 predictions including Davidovich Fokina vs. Hijikata

There are only a few days left until the start of the Australian Open, but it’s a busy Wednesday with the preparatory tournament in Adelaide coming up. Sixteen men are aiming to qualify for the ATP250 event, with all second-round matches scheduled for Wednesday.

This set of LWOT predictions features No. 1 seed Alejandro Davidovic Fokina, but previews of the other four second round matches of the men’s tournament can be found in separate articles.

ATP Adelaide day 3 predictions

Marton Husovics vs Alexander Shevchenko

Head-to-head: Shevchenko 1-0

Husovic had a slightly better 2025 season and will end up coming into this matchup ranked 60 spots higher than Shevchenko. Shevchenko won his only match on clay in Kitzbühel last year, but the Hungarian’s match is suited to hard courts as an all-court player. Shevchenko has more fights coming up this week as he qualified for the main draw, but I see Husovic as having the upper hand.
Prediction: Husovics 3rd place

Talon Greekspool vs Hugo Humbert

Head-to-head: 1-1

Adelaide’s fourth-seeded Griekspur has lost only a handful of games dating back to October last year, but has faced tough opponents such as Alexander Zverev along the way. Humbert won his first match of 2026 against his compatriot on Monday. Terence Atmane. The pair have both performed well in their matches and are known for staying strong, especially under pressure. This match should be decided by the better server, and I think Humbert will have the upper hand at the end of two close sets.
Prediction: Humbert in second place.

Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Valentin Bachelot

Head-to-head: first meeting

Kokkinakis could be called the Prince of Adelaide. The Australian has faced some serious injury battles, but always finds a way to recover. Bringing healthy and exciting tennis to this tournament. A tough opponent awaits her on Wednesday, and Vachelot is playing the best tennis of her career. Kokkinakis dominated top-ranked Sebastian Korda in a third-set tiebreaker in his first match, but I don’t think he has the legs or the match play experience to pull off another upset. Vashlot will have to get the match off to a strong start and repel any opportunity for partisan crowd participation.
Prediction: Vashlot 3rd place

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Linky Hijikata

Head-to-head: Hijikata 1-0

Hijikata won the pair’s only match at the 2024 US Open, but he loves Australia’s home court as well. He delighted fans with a win over fellow Australian Tristan Schoolkeit in his opening match in Adelaide, but this match will be a big step up. Davidovic Fokina lost his only game of the season in Brisbane, but the Spaniard is well-rested and has more weapons than the home favorites. A close battle is expected, but Davidovich Fokina’s serve and skillful game will make the difference.
Prediction: Davydovich Fokina in 3rd place
