It promises to be a great quarter-final day of ATP action in Adelaide. The four matches on the WTA side also include Mira Andreeva vs. Maya Joynt. Tommy Paul, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Shanghai Masters champion Valentin Bachelot are some of the ATP players taking to the court. As always, we at LWOT predict every move.
ATP Adelaide quarterfinal predictions
Tomas Machak vs Jaume Munar
Head-to-head: First meeting
Machak had dominant performances against James Duckworth and Quentin Harris, not dropping a set in either match. Munar easily defeated Daniel Altmaier and held off a close battle with third-seeded Francisco Cerundro. The Czech will definitely be the attacker in this contest. As good as his overall talent is, this match is all about him. Munar is a fighter, but he can only win if Macyak plays poorly, which feels doubtful.
Prediction: Machak’s second year
Hugo Humbert vs Alexander Shevchenko
Matchup: Humbert 2-0 Shevchenko
Humbert did not drop a set in either match, while Shevchenko has reached this point with four wins since qualifying. In their previous match, Humbert successfully dealt with his opponent’s aggression in rallies and avoided getting overwhelmed. That would allow the Frenchman’s excellent serve to make a decisive difference. Such a move is most likely to occur again.
Prediction: Humbert in second place.
Alejandro Davidovic Fokina vs Valentin Bachelot
Match: Davidovich Fokina 1-0 Vashro
Both players had to defeat just one opponent to advance to the quarterfinals (Thanasi Kokkinakis withdrew due to injury before his scheduled match with Vashro). Vashro had an extraordinary victory in Shanghai last year, but Davidovic Fokina is the more talented player. His aggressive and varied game suits the conditions well and he is likely to win.
Prediction: Davydovich Fokina in 3rd place
Tommy Paul vs Aleksandar Vukic
Head-to-head: First meeting
Vukic is another player who has made it this far from qualifying. All of his wins, including the one against Stefanos Tsitsipas, were hard fought. In contrast, Paul’s only win was in straight sets against Riley Opelka. The seasoned Vukic may be able to help a little, but Paul is pushing for victory. The Australian’s level in the last four games will almost certainly not be enough to pass this challenge.
Prediction: Paul in 2
