The Avalanche announced Tuesday that Sam Malinsky has signed a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2029-30 season.
According to Elliott Friedman of Sportsnet, the Avalanche will pay Malinsky $4.75 million per season. reported.
Malinsky, 27, set career highs in assists (21) and points (24) through 50 games this season. His three goals are also two goals shy of his personal best set last season.
The Lakeville, Minn., native is logging 16 minutes, 31 seconds of ice time per game and has scored all but two points at even strength.
“Sam is a hard-working defenseman with great skating and puck-moving ability,” Avalanche general manager said. Chris McFarland said in a statement. “His dedication to the defensive end has made him a reliable defenseman for us. We are excited to sign him for the next four seasons.”
Malinsky joined the Avalanche as an undrafted college free agent in March 2023 and made his NHL debut the following November.
He has played in 149 games in his career, scoring 11 goals and providing 38 assists. In 46 AHL contests last season, the right-handed Malinsky had five goals and 22 assists.
