LOS ANGELES — A series of social media posts from Brooklyn Beckham have further brought the Beckham family feud into the public eye. It has been claimed that parents David and Victoria Beckham have tried to sabotage their marriage and have always prioritized public branding over family relationships.

“All my life, my parents have controlled media coverage of our family. Performative social media posts, family affairs, and fake relationships have been entrenched in the life I was born into,” Brooklyn Beckham wrote in a multi-page post on his Instagram Story.

The 26-year-old is the eldest of four children of the former Spice Girl turned fashion designer and former English football superstar, who works as a model and photographer and once dreamed of becoming a chef. He married American actor Nicola Peltz, daughter of activist investor Nelson Peltz, in 2022.

“I have recently seen with my own eyes the lengths to which they will go to great lengths to feed countless lies to the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, in order to maintain their own appearance. However, I believe that the truth will always come out,” the post reads.

These posts make public a barely veiled feud that has been brewing for months in articles from anonymous sources in tabloids. In December, his brother Cruz Beckham said on Instagram that Brooklyn had blocked his family on social media.

“I don’t want to reconcile with my family,” Brooklyn Beckham wrote. “I’m not being controlled. I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

Unlike his three younger brothers, Brooklyn Beckham did not appear in his mother’s recent Netflix documentary series Victoria Beckham, did not attend the 2023 London premiere of a film about his father called Beckham with Peltz, and did not appear at the October premiere.

Much of the frustration voiced on Instagram Stories stems from Peltz and Beckham’s wedding in Florida. He accused Peltz’s mother of letting him design her wedding dress at the last minute and said her mother “hijacked” the first dance he and his wife were supposed to have to Marc Anthony music.

Brooklyn Beckham wrote, “She did a very inappropriate dance on me in front of everyone.” “I have never felt so uncomfortable and humiliated in my entire life.”

Although she did not provide details, she also wrote that her parents “repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me to take away the rights to my name” before the wedding.

David and Victoria Beckham did not immediately respond publicly to the post, and representatives did not immediately respond to messages from The Associated Press.

David Beckham, who is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, did not directly address his son’s comments during an appearance on CNBC on Tuesday, but said that children make mistakes on social media and should be forgiven.

“That’s what I try to teach my kids, but sometimes you have to let them make those mistakes,” he said.

David and Victoria Beckham, who married in 1999, have three children: Romeo, 23, Cruise, 20, and Harper, 14.
