The Bulls returned hard-earned points from South Australia and shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium.
Back on the road, the Bulls faced the Reds for the first time this season under the scorching heat of Adelaide. Despite the conditions, they got off to a bright start and took the game to the hosts from the opening whistle.
The visitors started the game in the lead, with Luke Vickery, Sime Gulzan and Callum Talbot all creating promising chances. Vickery sparked the match early in the sixth minute, making a ferocious run before firing a powerful shot that was well saved by the Adelaide keeper.
Gulzan continued to pose a threat throughout the first half, but could not find a breakthrough. Adelaide took the lead in the 37th minute with a goal from Johnny Yule, but Talbot hit back soon after with a long-range shot that just missed the target.
Trailing at the break, the Bulls came out of the shed determined to turn the game around.
That intention paid off early in the second half. Chris Ikonomidis came off the bench in place of Gulzan and immediately made an impact. Just 15 seconds into his appearance, Ikonomidis clinically leveled the score by running into the back of the net and receiving a pinpoint pass from Vickery.
The Bulls pushed hard for a winner, with Ikonomidis and Anthony Caceres both testing Adelaide’s defence. Meanwhile, Kurt made a series of great saves to keep the Bulls in contention and deny the hosts a late victory.
Neither team could score a decisive goal in the final stages, and the match ended 1-1, leaving the Bulls with a valuable point for Adelaide.
