Once the clanking of the granite stopped, the formula for winning a medal became clearer.
The men’s team, which has played all nine round-robin games, will need either Italy or Norway to lose to already-qualified Switzerland or Canada, respectively, on Thursday morning.
If either team wins, Moore’s team will advance to the last four later in the day. That form will be put to the test and hopes of improving on the silver medal won four years ago will be rekindled.
“It’s a terrible position to be in when you’re watching other games and hoping for the result you want,” the British skip told BBC Sport. “But we will have to tread carefully and see what happens.”
Women still have to do their jobs on Thursday.
To advance to Friday’s semi-finals, Switzerland will need a third straight win against hosts Italy (13:05 GMT), with Switzerland hoping to beat the United States.
The inexperienced rink, with Jenn Dodds being the only survivor from the 2022 gold-medal winning team, appears to be hitting form at the right time, having finished sixth at last year’s world championships.
Morrison, in particular, has improved in this tournament, and it was her bold shot-making that led to Wednesday’s two wins and brought this team back to the brink of a medal.
“It was very much Team Morrison,” Dodds told BBC Sport. “We have a knack for winning ugly, but that’s how we liked our performance tonight.
“Now, let’s embrace the experience and the noise for tomorrow.”
