Real Madrid missed a chance to move within a point of La Liga leaders Barcelona after Martin Satriano’s stunning strike gave Getafe a shock win at the Bernabéu.

Satriano scored the winning goal before half-time with a breathtaking volley into Thibaut Courtois’ top corner, condemning the hosts to their second straight league defeat.

This means that Real remain four points behind Barça, who have played 26 games.

Alvaro Arbeloa made three changes within the first 10 minutes of the second half, and Trent Alexander-Arnold also made one of them.

After the break, his team increased the tempo and the visiting team looked most vulnerable from crosses into the box.

Antonio Rudiger’s header near the near post went just wide, while substitute Rodrygo’s shot across goal was missed by Dani Carvajal at the far post.

It was a bad night for Real Madrid as Franco Mastantuono received a red card in second-half stoppage time for verbally abusing referee Alejandro Muniz Ruiz.

Moments later, Getafe’s Adrian Riso was also sent off after receiving a second yellow card for wasting time.

Arbeloa are currently without Mbappé and England midfielder Jude Bellingham due to injury, but have lost four of their 12 games in charge.

Madrid next face Celta Vigo on Friday (20:00 GMT) as they aim to avoid a third successive league defeat.
