Harvey Elliott’s recall is likely due to the Aston Villa situation and, as Unai Emery said on Wednesday, it does not change his situation.
A growing injury list with the likes of Boubakar Kamara, John McGinn and Youri Tielemans means Emery’s options are limited as he looks to rest parts of his squad, particularly Morgan Rodgers.
Villa do not want Elliott’s loan move from Liverpool to become permanent, with 10 appearances meaning he would be worth £35m.
Tonight will be his sixth appearance, but Emery was adamant about Elliott’s future when asked before the game.
“It’s no different with Harvey,” Emery said. “We have our ideas. I’ve spoken clearly with Harvey. As I said before, he’s a great guy.
“He was on the bench against Newcastle on Sunday and when we needed his help he was there and ready to play.
“He’s also in the team, but the current situation hasn’t changed.”
