Flood warnings issued as Storm Ingrid pushes into the southwest

Flooding is expected in parts of the southwest coast Storm Ingrid is moving in from the Atlantic Ocean.

Announced by the Environment Agency 5 flood warnings Ahead of the next high tide covering the Tidal Fal Estuary, Lizard Point to Gribbin Head, Gribbin Head to Rame Head, Plymouth Bay, Wembury Bay and nearby estuaries.

A flood warning means homes, roads and businesses are expected to be affected.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has yellow wind and rain warning It will be in place for parts of Somerset and Devon from 2pm GMT on Friday until 9am GMT on Saturday, with rain continuing to fall on already saturated ground.

Forecasters say the center of Storm Ingrid will pass near the Southwest on Friday. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph (96 km/h) are possible along exposed coastlines, along with heavy rain.

Forecasters said the combination of storm surge and strong winds could cause waves to overtop the sea walls in vulnerable spots along the south coast. Travel may also be disrupted, especially during the busiest times of the day.

The Environment Agency is urging people in affected areas to remain vigilant, check flood warnings regularly and prepare for possible disruption. This includes moving valuables to the second floor, avoiding coastal areas during stormy weather, and using caution on coastal roads.

The windy and wet weather is likely to continue into Saturday morning, then taper off gradually.
