‘They’ll be back’ – Wrexham sympathize with Sheffield Wednesday’s plight

Parkinson himself endured similar hardships during his time as Bolton Wanderers manager.

Bolton, 58, led the Trotters to promotion to the Championship in 2016-17, but remained in the second tier in 2017-18 amid the club’s financial difficulties, before suffering relegation in 2018-19.

After that they went into management and Parkinson left the club.

Despite the Owls’ current struggles, Parkinson is well aware that his side will take nothing for granted as they travel to Hillsborough on Saturday.

“I’ve been there before me and it’s never easy, but this weekend we have to focus on ourselves and what we have to do to maintain our place in the league,” he added.

“Over the years, I’ve seen it, there are games that go to the bottom teams in each division and we had to move away from the narrative that you can just move up in the standings and win.

“We are playing against a team that plays with great pride and determination and they have the right attitude in the game.

“We have to earn it. It’s that simple.”

Sheffield Wednesday have won just one of their 28 Championship games this season, but go into their match against Wrexham on a five-game losing streak in the league.

Wrexham are the first team in the second division to have won three consecutive away league games and sit in 6th place.
