Aston Villa They have agreed to re-sign former midfielder Douglas Lewis on loan.
The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, but is expected to leave the City Ground to join Villa before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Chelsea were also interested in the Brazil international, but sources told BBC Sport his preference was Villa, where he made 204 appearances between 2019 and 2024.
The contract includes a buyout option.
Villa sold Luiz to Juventus for £42.5 million in June 2024 to resolve revenue and sustainability issues, but he only started three games in Serie A before joining Forest in August 2025.
Villa boss Unai Emery is looking to strengthen his midfield options, with captain John McGinn out for up to two months with a knee problem and Boubacar Kamara expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Emery’s side missed out on signing England international Conor Gallagher earlier this month as he opted for a £35m move from Atletico Madrid to Tottenham.
Villa are in third place in the Premier League, four points behind leaders Arsenal, and have qualified for the Europa League last 16 with one game remaining in the league phase.
Villa are also expected to immediately complete the £18m signing of striker Tammy Abraham from Besiktas after he underwent a medical in England.
The Turkish side activated their £11.2m option to sign loanee Abraham from Roma on Monday and are now set to sell the 28-year-old to Villa.
