St David’s Day events to be held across the West Midlands

Sunday is St. David’s Day and the beginning of March.

A special St David’s Day lecture by North Staffordshire Welsh author Stuart Heywood will be held at 14:00 at Brampton Museum in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.

Heywood is the current president of the Stoke-on-Trent and District Welsh Association and has undertaken extensive research into the migration of Welsh people into north Staffordshire, primarily during the Victorian period, which he used to compile his book.

His presentation will focus on the locations within North Staffordshire where immigrants settled, their motivations for moving there and how the communities were established.

Also on Sunday, a concert will be held at Cradley Church in Cradley, Herefordshire, from 3pm, featuring the Malvern Male Choir and harpist Shelley Fairplay.

Tickets cost £18 including refreshments and all proceeds will be split equally between Cradley Church and Cradley Village Hall.

Finally, the St David’s Day Concert will be held at St Oswald’s Church in Oswestry, Shropshire on Saturday 7th March from 19:00 to 21:30.

This will feature the Fron Male Choir with Lleisiau’r Afon.
