veteran reliever david robertson He decided to quit spiking. he announced his decision personal social media pagesissue the following statement:
“I decided it was time to hang up my cleats and retire from baseball, the sport I’ve loved for as long as I can remember. Over the past 19 seasons, baseball has given me more than I ever dreamed of. From winning the World Series, to pitching in the All-Star Game, to representing the United States with a gold medal at the World Baseball Classic and a silver medal at the Olympics. I’ve had the privilege of playing with great teammates, learning from great coaches, and being welcomed into an organization that feels like a family. To my trainers, clubhouse staff, front office and behind-the-scenes fans, thank you for your continued support and encouragement every day.
Most importantly, I would like to thank my wife and children. Your love, sacrifice, perseverance and dedication have made this career possible. I’m excited to step away from the game, be home with my family, focus on the farm, and continue growing High Socks for Hope. Helping families rebuild after a disaster is one of the most rewarding parts of my life outside of baseball.
It is not easy to say goodbye, but we do so with deep gratitude for every opportunity, challenge, and memory. I will forever be grateful for this game and everyone who has made this journey so amazing. ”
