Denmark fights back in clash between giants at Men’s EHF EURO

Denmark takes double revenge

France became the first team in history to defeat Denmark in the final of EHF EURO 2014 at Juskebank Boxen. On that night 12 years ago, France crushed the hosts’ hopes with a 41-32 victory and clinched the third of four trophies.

Until Tuesday night, when they lost 29:31 to Portugal, this was Denmark’s only defeat in the “home of handball”.

Two days later, there was another deadly match against France. The balance was clear. Denmark had lost six of their last seven EHF EURO matches, with the exception of the 2022 bronze medal match in Budapest. And they had their backs against the wall in goalkeeper Kevin Moller’s 100th international game. The last time Denmark suffered two consecutive defeats was in 2022, in the final game against France and in the semi-finals against Spain.

History did not repeat itself Thursday, but one fact remains: The two teams have never drawn in 27 competitive games. And Denmark held France to just 29 goals, their lowest score so far in this EHF EURO.
