On Monday, Bungie announced the release date for Marathon and also opened pre-orders on MLK Day. It leaked the day before Anyway. I heard it was scheduled for today, but it ended up being today. The marathon arrives on March 5th.
Well, there’s a bit of a problem.
Destiny 2’s Shadow and Order post-Renegades major update is set to release on March 3rd, and after weeks of nothing to do, it will add at least some level of new activities and loot to the game. But two days before Marathon’s launch would be too uncomfortable for Bungie and many players.
My sources say that Bungie plans to postpone updates for Shadow and Order because they are too close to the release of Marathon. I don’t know how long it will be delayed. I think it will take more than a week, and I don’t know when it will be officially announced, but it will probably be announced soon. But it’s happening.
This didn’t please many Destiny players who weren’t planning on playing marathons, a vastly different genre, and simply wanted new content. Below is a sample of the comments I received when I reported on this yesterday.
Play puzzles and games on Forbes
- “Oh, it’s great to be second class again.”
- “F#$k! I hate them for sacrificing the kid who’s making money now for the new kid who hasn’t even learned how to walk yet.”
- “I say, please allow Concord 2.0 to release and fail so the Bungie team can come together and focus on developing Destiny 2.”
It should be noted that when Marathon reached its peak yesterday, Marathon made a pretty big hit against the “Concord 2” story. 4th place on Steam bestseller chart The only things available for pre-order are monsters like CSGO and of course ARC raiders. At the time of its release, Concord was not ranked in the top 100 bestsellers on Steam.
I can understand why Destiny 2 players would be frustrated, but the point is, this just had to happen in a way. We can’t overstate how important Marathon is to Bungie, and we want to focus on its launch rather than confuse it with promotions for Shadow and Order. And we have to admit that Shadow and Order isn’t a very substantial Destiny release. At most, a few new activities, events, and loot. This isn’t even one of the new small expansions in the post-Final Shape era. And it’s not the “final shape.”
Despite the genre differences, the majority of users expect Bungie to play marathons. teeth Destiny players should at least give it a try. Many of them have been loyal to Bungie for years, or even a decade, or even as far back as Halo, for nearly 30 years. This is the third new Bungie shooter IP in nearly 30 years.
So, is it annoying? perhaps. do you understand? yes. We will provide more details as soon as we know the exact timing of the delay. I don’t think the timing has been decided yet.
