Duke University and quarterback Darian Mensah have reached a settlement that allows Mensah to transfer. His agency and Duke made the announcement. Tuesday.
Duke had filed a lawsuit over Mensah’s transfer attempt, saying he signed a two-season contract with the school in 2025, but a judge agreed to a temporary restraining order that would prevent Mensah from enrolling at another university. A public hearing was scheduled for Thursday in Durham.
Mensah, who led the Blue Devils to the ACC championship in December, is expected to transfer to Miami. He was reportedly paid approximately $4 million per season. His redacted contract, which expires at the end of 2026, was included in court documents.
“Duke University Athletics and Darian Mensah have reached a resolution that allows both parties to move forward.” The school said in a statement:.
“We are committed to fulfilling all of the promises and obligations Duke makes to student-athletes when we enter into contracts with them, and we expect the same in return. Enforcing these agreements is a necessary element to ensure predictability and structure in our athletic programs. Still, litigating against students and teammates is a difficult choice. For this reason, we sought to resolve this matter fairly and quickly.”

Mensah was named second team All-ACC in 2025. He transferred from Tulane.
Young Money APAA Sports said: “Through close cooperation and principled negotiations, we have successfully navigated an unprecedented path and have now reached a fair and mutually agreeable resolution.”
In December, Mensah announced that he would forego early entry into the NFL Draft and return to Duke. However, on January 16, the last day players could enter the transfer portal, Mensah announced he was leaving Duke. According to media reports, the Blue Devils’ top receiver Cooper Burkett is expected to succeed Mensah.
