On December 10, 2025, Rockstar added a long-requested feature to GTA Online. Most of its features, fans feel, are mission creators that are an attempt at a more in-depth rollout in the next iteration of the sandbox. By allowing players to “Design and Publish” their own missions within GTA Online, creators can set and adjust goals, characters, and mechanics to create unique scenarios and share them with a wider player base.
A ubiquitous danger with community creation tools is content created in bad taste. And soon Rockstar had the absolute all-timer. One player used this tool to create a mission called “We are Charlie Kirk.” In this mission, players reenact the assassination of right-wing political commentator and content creator Charlie Kirk. Kirk was shot and killed during a public appearance at Utah Valley University last September. His murder suspect is in custody awaiting trial, and prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk continues to be a topic of great debate online, with vitriolic views from all sides, and in some cases even real-world implications: Disney He took popular comedian Jimmy Kimmel off the air. He finally made a comeback after he joked about it Following a statement of repentance. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance appealed to the nation: Report someone celebrating an assassination to their employers. More than four months later, the assassination remains a lightning rod for U.S.-based political discourse.
Rockstar clearly decided they didn’t want anything close to GTA Online, as they banned the “We Are Charlie Kirk” mission. Rockstar has also added “Charlie Kirk” to GTA Online’s profanity filter. This means players will not be able to search for future content that may be created using his name.
It’s unclear exactly when Rockstar removed the map itself. It’s also true that there are other player-created missions that appear to use variant spells to circumvent Kirk’s name ban. You can find these using Rockstar’s custom job site for GTA Online. The search for “Kirk” involved three missions along similar lines. Searching for “Charlie” will bring up 6 more missions related to that topic.
Rockstar is clearly taking steps to try to curb such missions, but so far their success seems questionable. Two things are clear. We don’t want this to happen in GTA Online. And there is a good chance that they will fight to stop it.
