The XF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR and GF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR are top-of-the-line telephoto lenses for Fujifilm’s X and G series cameras, utilizing solid image stabilization to ensure crisp still images without motion blur.
Fujifilm’s image stabilization has two aspects: optical image stabilization (OIS) in the lens and in-body image stabilization (IBIS) in the camera.
Only top-of-the-line Fujifilm lenses feature OIS, which is designed to suppress horizontal and vertical camera movement. To do this, gyroscope sensors in the lens calculate the movement of the lens, one of which moves electrically to counteract the shaking.
IBIS is a more comprehensive image stabilization feature. OIS operates on two axes, horizontal and vertical, while IBIS operates on five axes, compensating for vertical and horizontal motion, as well as roll, pitch, and yaw.
The manufacturer has not disclosed whether the bug is caused by OIS or IBIS.
of Previous firmware updates for XF 500mmversion 1.01 fixed an issue with autofocus (AF) that caused AF to become unstable when the focus area setting was not centered when shooting with a teleconverter lens.
Previously released by Fujifilm GF 500mm firmware version 1.02However, it only says it has fixed a “minor bug”.
