There’s no ETA yet, but the team loves Linux and says Linux support will appear on GOG.
A while ago we received some great news from the folks at Good Old Games (GOG). After one of GOG’s co-founders successfully took back the GOG website from its previous owner, CD Projekt Red, a job posting for the service claimed that GOG: Seen Linux as the “next frontier” for PC gamingI will take this more seriously in the future.
It’s not a stretch to believe so, but GOG definitely believes that. schedule There isn’t really much progress when it comes to Linux gaming support. You end up bringing in a new engineer to handle exactly that. Well, GOG isn’t sitting idle, and it turns out they’re already working on Linux integration, although we don’t know how long it will take yet.
GOG’s new owner details how he plans to approach Steam: Reduce the exposure of chaff
In a world of monopolies, GOG wants a niche market.
GOG is already going full steam ahead with Linux
And we have a very strong attachment to the OS within our company.
as discovered by computer guidethe team at GOG recently AMA is on the GOG subreddit. If you’ve never heard of it before, Ask Me Anything (AMA) threads allow people to post questions about who they are and what they do. It’s often done for celebrities to ask questions from internet experts, but it’s also a great promotional tool for music, games, and art.
People started flocking to GOG AMAs and asking the team questions about where GOG was headed and what they were working on. As you might imagine, some people were intrigued by the recent declaration that Linux is the next major frontier in gaming. Someone asked when GOG believes it will be able to deliver a native Linux client, and the team answers answered:
1. When will the recent job openings for developers porting Galaxy to Linux be available?
Although the process has begun, it is too early to give an ETA.
Another person asked about GOG’s Linux plans and how they will be implemented. this is, longer response:
We’re in the very early stages, but of course we recognize the growing popularity and importance of this OS for gamers, and we agree on its value. We have begun the process of hiring a senior engineer to help us with this response. As for specifics, I can’t share much at this time. Still, work has begun and this will appear on GOG at some point. That’s all we can say. Additionally, personally, I’m a big fan of Linux 🙂 This is a serious topic for us, and we’re going to put a lot of effort into it.
It’s great to see that GOG not only recognizes the growing popularity of Linux among gamers, but also loves the FOSS operating system itself. We’ll have to wait and see what the company has planned for Galaxy clients in the future.
