Gustavo Dudamel takes command Tosca Starring Marina Rebekah at Carnegie Hall
The New York Philharmonic launches a new Opera in Concert Series.

The New York Philharmonic has announced a new partnership with Carnegie Hall to present an annual opera concert at the acclaimed venue’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. Gustavo Dudamel begins his first season as artistic director of the Philharmonic with two performances of Puccini. Tosca In November 2026.
Soprano Marina Rebeca stars as Tosca, tenor Jonas Kaufmann plays the painter Cavaradossi, and baritone Ludovic Tézier plays Baron Scarpia. All three singers have performed in opera in New York in 2017, 2018, and 2011, respectively, and this is a long-awaited return to New York City, with Kaufman returning to Carnegie Hall for a lieder recital in 2021. Directed by Malcolm J. Meriwether. The opera is set in Rome in the summer of 1800, when French and Austrian armies are fighting for control of the city. The exiled Roman consul Angelotti takes shelter with the painter Cavaradossi. Later, Cavaradossi and his girlfriend, the singer Tosca, become targets of the police chief, Baron Scarpia.
