Haryana launches new initiative under tuberculosis eradication program

Haryana Health Secretary Smita Misra on Wednesday announced a series of patient-centric initiatives under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program (NTEP).

Misra launched a dedicated state tuberculosis (TB) cell website for real-time public access to TB services, the first sewing center to help TB survivors regain financial independence, a clinical guidance document aimed at reducing TB mortality, an upcoming celebrity-led awareness campaign, and the integration of SNA Sparsh, a fund management initiative, with Nikshay, a web-enabled patient management system for TB control.

The Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Ministry of Health said the upcoming website will enhance transparency and public access to TB-related services.

Misra said Haryana conducted 1,252,000 sputum tests against the target of 975,000 from January to December 2025, reaching 3,848 tests per 100,000 population. A total of 88,689 tuberculosis cases were notified.

“In 2024, 74,483 patients were successfully treated, and treatment outcomes remained promising, reaching a treatment success rate of 90%. HIV testing uptake reached 98%, diabetes screening covered 96% of TB patients, and we ensured integrated management of comorbidities,” she said.

Misra said under TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Nikshay Civil), over 3.4 million vulnerable people have been mapped and over 10 million people have been tested. Nutritional and social support through the Nikshay Mitra Initiative has distributed over 2.64 billion food baskets since September 2022, benefiting thousands of people. Haryana also received national recognition for its Nikshay Mitra initiative on World Tuberculosis Day 2025 and achieved 1,855 TB Mukt Panchayats in 2024, the ACS said.
