Chery iCar V23 and Jetour T2 get 5 stars in ASEAN NCAP

The Indian automobile market will witness a new brand of automaker in 2026. We are talking about JSW Group’s standalone venture out of the JSW MG Motor India joint venture, which will be called JSW Motors. The company is setting up a manufacturing plant at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, which will begin assembly operations in August 2026.

JSW Motors has partnered with China’s Chery Automobiles and the company aims to launch Chery vehicles as Jaecoo J5Jetour T2 and iCar V23 in India. Now, Jetour T2 and Chery iCar V23 have just been crash tested by ASEAN NCAP. Let’s take a look at how they fared in these crash tests.

ASEAN Chery iCar V23 NCAP Crash Test

Crash test agency ASEAN NCAP has just released the crash test results of iCaur V23. If you are wondering if iCaur V23 and iCar V23 are the same, they are. The iCar name is only for the Chinese domestic market and in the rest of the world it is called iCaur V23. Even the iCar and iCaur logos are subtly different from each other.

The crash-tested vehicle was a Chery iCaur V23 H variant manufactured in 2025 with a 208 HP electric motor and a curb weight of 1,820 kg. The V23 offers 6 airbags as standard on all variants along with ABS and ESC. It was manufactured in China for markets such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Chery iCar V23 It scored a total of 91.02 points, giving it a 5-star crash rating. The SUV achieved 31.77/32 points in Adult Occupant Protection, 42.5/51 points in Child Occupant Protection, 18/21 points in Safety Assistance Systems and 14/16 points in Motorcyclist Safety. V23 also comes with a number of ADAS features.

ASEAN Chery Jetour T2 NCAP Crash Test

Like Chery iCar V23, Chery Jetour T2 is also heading to India and is expected to be JSW Motors’ first vehicle for India. In ASEAN NCAP crash tests, Jetour T2 also earned full 5-star ratings. The vehicle tested was from China, for markets such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The tested variant was the “2”, manufactured in 2025 and came with 6 airbags as standard along with ESC and ABS, a curb weight of 1,870 kg and had a 2.0 TD engine under the hood. It scored a total of 86.5 points, giving it a full 5-star ASEAN NCAP crash safety result.

Chery Jetour T2 ASEAN NCAP results

Jettour T2 It obtained 29.74/32 points in adult occupant safety, 40.63/51 points in child occupant safety, 18/21 points in safety assistance functions and 8/8 points in motorcyclist safety evaluation. Unlike the V23, which had “Good” safety for the front occupants except the front passenger’s chest, the Jetour T2 has one area where safety was declared “Marginal”, which was the driver’s left shin.
