‘An unexpected favorite’ – IKEA executive reveals why this $10/£5 sensor is his favorite of the new range of smart gadgets

IKEA may be known for their great bedding and space-saving storage solutions, but they recently launched an interesting new range of smart gadgets. When we spoke to David Granath, Range Manager for Lighting and Home Appliances at IKEA, about the Swedish home goods giant’s new products, he revealed an unexpected favorite: the Timmerflotte temperature sensor.

“I think this is a great example of what we want to offer: a simple, convenient product at a price that most people can afford,” he comments. Timmerflotte is already available and at a wallet-friendly price $9.99 at IKEA US And even more affordable £5 at IKEA UK. As David points out, it’s cheap enough that you could easily install one in each room of your house.

The advantage of this product other than the price is that it is very easy to use. It requires little technical knowledge to set up and even less to use. “I decided to add a simple display to the product, which was important to me,” David explains. “It works right out of the box without having to figure out how to connect it.”

Like the rest of the new additions, it’s compatible with the universal Matter standard, so if you have an existing smart home ecosystem, you don’t have to worry about it not working well with it.

This screen also means you don’t need to use the app to get useful insights. But of course you can use the app if you want to dig deeper. “You’ll be able to see temperature and humidity right away,” continues David. “It’s always available in the app whenever you need it, and you can use it for automation or see values on the go.”
