Iva Jovic cruised to a first-round victory at the Australian Open with a straight sets victory over Katie Vorinec. The 18-year-old made five breaks and won 6-2, 6-3 after an hour and 28 minutes. Vorinec broke for a 2-1 lead in the second set, but Jovic quickly responded and won five of the next six games to seal the victory. Jovic reached the final at the Hobart International last week and has won eight of his 10 matches in 2026.

She will face Priscilla Hong in round two. In Melbourne, the Australian rebounded from a slow start to advance after her opponent Marina Staksic was forced to retire in the third set. Hong broke in the deciding match to take a 5-3 lead, but Staksic was unable to continue due to leg cramps. This was Hong’s first win at the Australian Open since 2020.

Jovic has already made progress at the beginning of this season, and her all-court game is enough to defeat Hong in straight sets.
