English great and one of the legends of the game, James Anderson, was amazed by Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling accuracy. It was Bumrah who turned the game on its head as India beat England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday. For Anderson, the way Bumrah executes his yorkers with perfect precision sets him apart from the rest of the bowlers in the world, be it in men’s or women’s cricket. “The thing about Bumrah is that I look at him and think, I don’t think you can learn anything from him. He is an absolute phenomenon. There is not a single bowler in the world, in any format, men or women, who can bowl six yorkers for sixes and get it absolutely right every time. Even one of the yorkers he bowled. [vs England] in his last over it was a slower ball. So he hit five fast yorkers and one slower ball yorker; you just can’t hit them anywhere,” Anderson said on the BBC podcast.
England had their task cut out in the semi-final against India as they chased a mammoth total of 254. However, Jacob Bethell showed exemplary determination and desire to keep fighting. He scored an impressive century, taking all the Indian bowlers to cleanliness except Bumrah.
For Anderson, had it not been for Bumrah, England could well have chased down the target.
“England did very well by getting six [runs] out of the hole, as if the ball had been squeezed. In fact, they played it pretty well because they thought, ‘We know we can’t take limits off of him, or it’s going to be very difficult to take off limits on him.’ So we’ll take our chances against the other two at the other end.
“And you saw at the end, Dube bowled the last over and got 22 with Jofra Archer hitting him. I know the game was over then, but he was trying to bowl a yorker and missed by a decent margin. It’s just ridiculous skill. There’s no one, certainly in T20 cricket, better than him,” Anderson concluded.
