7:32pm PT — A source close to Kenan tells TMZ that this is a contractual disagreement and does not mean he chose not to pay rent. Our sources say Kenan never received a key to the property or even set foot on the property.
Kenan Thompson He is being dragged to court by his landlord who claims he owes him more than $34,000 for breaking the lease on his rental home.
The “SNL” star is being sued for allegedly violating a 12-month lease on a three-bedroom property in Los Angeles, according to a new lawsuit obtained by TMZ.
The documents allege that the landlord entered into a written rental agreement with Kenan in September…The rental agreement began on October 1, and Kenan agreed to pay one year’s rent of $10,250 before the lease began each month.
The problem is…the landlord claims Kennan violated the lease and must pay $17,425 in unpaid rent for November and December.
Additionally, the landlord claims that they had trouble finding a replacement tenant and were only able to get him to move in at a reduced rent…and the landlord says that Kennan is being billed the difference, which in this case amounts to $15,750 over a 12-month lease.
The landlord is pursuing Kennan for $871 in late fees, $9,594 in agent fees and $1,000 in “legal costs recoverable under the rental agreement,” according to the documents.
Kennan’s landlord said he owed a total of $34,390 after the $10,250 deposit he paid was remitted.
We reached out to Kenan’s camp but have not heard back so far.
