Level 3 driving bans in Kent and Sussex counties downgraded to level 2 driving restrictions, Newcastle county remains under level 1 driving warning
Snowstorm recovery efforts continue across the state
(Smyrna, Delaware) – Level 3 driving bans in Kent and Sussex counties have been reduced to level 2 driving restrictions.
- Level 2 driving restrictions – When Level 2 driving restrictions are in effect, no motor vehicle may be operated on Delaware roadways except by persons designated as essential personnel, including employed snow removal equipment operators, snow removal equipment operators contracted by public or private entities, or designations already approved through the Delaware Emergency Management Agency’s Emergency Driving Exemption Program.
New Castle County remains under a Level 1 driving alert.
- Level 1 driving warning – Avoid traveling on roadways unless there is a critical safety, health, or business reason to do so. All drivers are asked to drive with extreme caution.
DEMA and partners continue efforts to recover from last night’s snow and wind impacts.
- National Guard assets continue to support Sussex and Kent counties
- DelDOT continues snow removal operations across the state
- Non-main roads may be impassable due to abandoned vehicles, snowdrifts, fallen trees, or public infrastructure.
- Delmarva Power and Delaware Electric Cooperative are working to restore power to more than 60,000 customers and are appealing to surrounding states for mutual aid.
Residents must:
- Stay informed about current weather, winter storm forecasts, travel advisories, and alerts
- Check on your neighbors for older adults, people with access or functional needs, or people with disabilities to make sure their needs are being met.
- Make alternative plans, such as sheltering in place or staying with someone in your personal support network.
- To avoid possible carbon monoxide poisoning, store gasoline-powered devices outdoors at least 20 feet away from windows doors and vents.
