Pistons add Kevin Huerter and Dario Šarić in three-team swap

Swingman Kevin Huerter is averaging 10.9 points per game and shooting 31.4 percent from 3-point range this season.

Detroit is gearing up for the 2025-2026 stretch run.

The Pistons acquired Kevin Huerter and Dario Šarić from the Chicago Bulls in a multi-team trade, sending Mike Conley from the Minnesota Timberwolves and Jaden Ivey from the Pistons to the Bulls.

In this trade, the Pistons also receive a 2026 first-round protection swap from the Timberwolves.

Detroit will receive:

  • Kevin Harter (via Chicago)
  • Dario Šarić (via Chicago)
  • 2026 1st Round Protected Swap (via Minnesota)

In Chicago, you get:

  • Mike Conley Jr. (via Minnesota)
  • Jaden Ivey (via Detroit)

Minnesota will receive:

Huerter boasts a career 3-point shooting percentage of 37.1%, but this season he is shooting just 31.4% (a career low). He was traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Bulls at last season’s trade deadline and is on the move again. He averaged 10.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 44 games with Chicago, and trading him would mean more playing time for young star Matas Bouzelis.

Huerter is having one of the most productive seasons of his career and will join a Detroit team looking to make the playoffs in the East.

The Pistons have the No. 1 record in the Eastern Conference (36-12) and are led by All-Stars Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren. However, Detroit ranks last in the NBA in 3-pointers made (531) and 27th in 3-pointers made (1,524). Things could change with Huerter joining a group that always has deep threats such as Duncan Robinson.

Ivey, the No. 5 pick in 2022, had a career season in 2024-25, but was sidelined after 30 games due to a fractured left fibula. He required knee surgery in the offseason and did not make his season debut until late November. He is averaging 8.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg, and 1.6 apg, all career lows, and has been mostly a backup this season after being a starter the previous three seasons.

Minnesota will not acquire any players in this trade, but releasing Conley from his contract will help the team financially. Facing an estimated $24 million bill entering Tuesday, Conley’s move lowered the projected total to about $4 million, below the first apron.

The Bulls were quick to move Šarić, trading him less than a week after acquiring him from the Kings in a trade that sent DeAndre Hunter to Sacramento and Dennis Schroder to Cleveland. Conley (4.4 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.9 apg) moved to Chicago to become the Bulls’ veteran voice and served primarily as a backup for Minnesota this season.

All four players involved in this reported trade are on expiring contracts.
