Preview: Konyaspor vs Eijspor – predictions, team news, line-up

Konyaspor, aiming for their first league title since October, welcome Eyupspor to the Konya Büyüksehir Berediyesi Stadium on Monday in Round 18 of the Turkish Super Lig.

Both teams, playing their first league match of the year, sit just four points apart in the bottom half of the table and will be hoping to fight hard this weekend to get out of the danger zone.

Match preview

On Thursday, Konyaspor defeated second division Bodrum FK 2-1 in Group B of Turkiye Kupasy, where both teams met at the Bodrum Ilce Stadium, making it two wins from two games.

On 23 December, after a 1-0 win in the opening game against Antalyaspor, goals from Morten Bjørlo and Sander Svendsen either side of the 56th-minute equalizer from Ege Birsel gave the visiting team all three points.

Head coach Kagdas Atan is hoping the midweek cup match will spark a much-needed turnaround in Super League. The Anatolian Eagles are looking for their first league win in eight games, but have lost four and drawn one, most recently ending in a 1-1 stalemate against Kayserispor on December 20th.

Konyaspor took the lead in the 63rd minute thanks to veteran striker Umut Nair, but after allowing an equalizer in the third minute of stoppage time, they were left with the bitter feeling of what could have been against Kayserispor.

Monday’s hosts have won only four of their 17 Super League games so far, but with eight losses and five draws, they have 17 points and sit 13th in the league table, just two points above the relegation zone.

Like the home team, Eipspor achieved their first win of the year in midweek with a come-from-behind victory over Igdir FK in Liga against Turkiye Kupaş at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium.

Eyupspor are looking to bounce back from their 2-1 loss to Samspor in their opening Group B match on Christmas Eve, and were on track for a second straight cup defeat when Igdir took the lead with Özder Özkan’s goal in the 26th minute.

But 29-year-old striker Umut Bozok took matters into his own hands, restoring the balance with a half-time goal and ending Eyupspor’s comeback with an 86th-minute goal.

Like the home side, Eyupspor will be looking to build on their cup victory and return to league play, as Orhan Aku’s side have failed to win seven of their last eight games and their top-flight status is under threat.

Aku’s team lost 3-0 to title-chasing Fenerbahçe on December 20, ending the 2025 Super League schedule with their 10th league defeat of the season. The Istanbul team has 13 points with three wins and four draws from 17 games, placing them in 17th place, four points ahead of bottom-placed Fatih Karagmurk.

As for Ejupspor, head coach Ak will not be able to name Brazilian duo Lucas Callegari and Lucas Claro, who are sidelined due to knee and ankle injuries respectively.

Veteran midfielder Emre Akbaba has missed each of the last four games since being forced off with an injury against Kayserispor on December 6, and the 33-year-old will not play in Monday’s game.

Following his eye-catching performance against Igdir, Bozok is expected to once again be at the forefront of Eyupspor’s attack, forming a front three alongside Denis Radu and Frenchman Lenny Pintor.

Konyaspor’s expected starting lineup:

Eltas. Chanterelle Ana, Yazugiri, Demirbag, Haubert. Joe, Baldi. Tassi, Bjorro, Mleka. Nair

We say: Konyaspor 2-1 Eyupspor

Buoyed by their cup victories, Konyaspor and Eyupspor will go into Monday’s encounter with renewed confidence and having improved in the Super Lig. Eyupspor have struggled since April with just four points from 11 games and will once again be seen struggling at the Konya Buyuksehir Belediesi Stadium.
