In the Season 2 finale of the hit Paramount+ series co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton, decides to strike out on his own after being fired by Cami (Demi Moore) from Emtex Oil, where Tommy was appointed president after the death of his friend Monty (Jon Hamm). But Tommy makes a deal with the devil, cartel boss Garino (Andy Garcia), to start a family company named CTT Oil after the Norris family: son Cooper (Jacob Lofland), grandfather TL (Sam Elliott), and Tommy (Thornton). Garino warns Tommy that if their partnership deteriorates, he will be robbed of the thing he loves most in this world.

But what he is certain of is that season 3 will be a reset for the oil drama set in West Texas, as the Paramount+ series follows Tommy and co. They are running CTT oil. Read his explanation of the season 2 finale and predictions for next season below.

I’m worried about what a happy ending will mean for season 3. Because I don’t think there are consecutive happy endings in the Sheridan section.

I think you’ve watched enough TV that you have pretty good intuition.

It looks like this season will be centered around the long-running multi-season thing we talked about at the beginning of the season. Landman plan.

It’s a reset in a way. [for season three]. These characters enter into different dynamics with each other, with TL, Tommy, and Cooper all working for the same company, but not under the auspices of this large corporation. We are now a very small family business and started almost from scratch. It’s a whole new dynamic for them. Along with other M-Tex characters who have some pretty big stakes at stake.

Gambling seems to be the motif this season. Angela is in the casino, and Cami is also betting on this. Tommy is kind of betting on himself right now, and he didn’t want to do it. When we meet him in the pilot, he talks about how things weren’t going well for him, so he ended up getting nothing and working for his buddy Monty at M-Tex. Many things have changed in his life. We’ve seen him grow a lot over the course of Season 2 and along with his family dynamics. Now it seems he’s back to the roulette wheel and betting on himself. So it’s both exciting and a little nerve-wracking.

What’s fun about resetting? Are you looking to reinvent the wheel for Season 3, or do you already have a clear idea of where you guys are going?

After all, that’s Taylor’s plan and we’re all just waiting to see what he decides. There’s a huge amount of trust that whatever Taylor decides, it’s the right choice. There are many possibilities, and I don’t even know exactly how it will play out. So let’s take a look.

From my understanding, you seem to be fixated on timelines. Production will return in May, with season 3 expected to be released around the same time next year. Are you feeling good now?

Oh, sure. we are in great shape. We’re a little behind the past two seasons, but that’s just not a problem for us because of the Texas heat. When production resumes this year, it’s going to be pretty serious and even hotter. That’s a big struggle from a production standpoint for those of us who are on set every day. We have so many facades, and that’s a good thing because this show thrives in the dust and the heat and the gritty, hot reality of the world. But it’s hard on the staff and cast and everyone. Spending 12 hours a day in 100+ degree weather is no joke. But that’s a cross we carry, not the cross of the audience. I’m excited about the schedule and I think the rhythm is going really well right now.

In season 2, Billy Bob Thornton plays Cami and Tommy, played by Demi Moore.

We don’t know what Taylor has in store, but considering they’re filming the final scene of season 2, both Tommy and Angela’s conversation and Tommy and Coyote’s showdown, how worried should Tommy be about Gano’s threat that the cartel boss will go after Tommy’s loved ones if he screws up this deal?

We ended Season 1 with a realization of just how violent and real that threat is. Tommy knows that better than anyone. He was the one who got the nail in the thigh. That level of reality was covered in gasoline. [in the season one finale]. Therefore, he knows that these are not idle threats. But Tommy is also a survivor and a predator himself. That Coyote symbolism has so many different meanings, but I think it’s great that Tommy is present and has some moments throughout this season where he absorbs lessons from TL.

“Look, dude, your life is going to pass. This is your life, and your life is not as bad as you think it is. There are a lot of insane people around you, but they love you and they love each other. Make it easier.” Shut up. Remember that it’s just as real as the explosion you’re dealing with in Patch.” You see Tommy really coming to terms with that in some moments, and for me those are some of the really great moments of this season.

Will there be a role for Cami in season 3? Do you think Demi Moore will come back?

I think there are a lot of different opportunities and ways this could play out. At the end of the day, I trust Taylor and his decisions for the storylines of all these characters. That’s above my pay grade.

This season, viewers went crazy over Billy Bob Thornton’s fully nude scene.

Just to clarify, that wasn’t actually Full Frontal. We had an intimacy coordinator on-site and the original prosthetic leg she brought with her made everyone laugh. We were like, “No.” So we adopted a more humble alternative. (smile.) It was a really fun day on set. But it amazes me that people think it was actually Billy doing full-frontal nudity. So I have to say props to the intimacy coordinator and props team for making it so real. As Billy says, they had a whole rig. “I installed the rig.”

Another story that sparked a reaction was about Ainsley’s non-binary roommate, Pagin (Bobby Salvar Menuez). Some viewers say this is Taylor speaking to a conservative audience. While filming, did this feel like a hot button storyline? Do you think Taylor likes to make noise and push buttons?

I think both seasons have their moments. Landman Press a few buttons and an interesting conversation begins. They are often portrayed as more one-dimensional than they really are. Often the major or minor issues being pushed are more nuanced than depicted. I think we all knew on some level that it would cause some kind of reaction, but if you follow the story you’ll see that it’s not as one-dimensional as a lot of the media has promoted it to be.

These two seasons span 10 to 15 days, with some time between them. So the whole thing Landman It’s only been a few months. Do we expect Season 3 to be similar, picking up soon after and playing out in a condensed time period?

Well, I don’t think we’re going to stray too far from the storytelling template that we’ve presented so far. We’ll continue to work within that established format because we think it’s a good fit for this story.

With the introduction of CTT Oil, will we spend more time in the oil fields in Season 3? Will there be more action? Will Shaw still spend time with Ainsley in college? Does Angela have a role in CTT?

We can definitely expect to see more of the range of dynamics built into this show in the future. The show is Ainsley and Dale. [James Jordan[ and Cooper and Ariana [Paulina Chávez]. It’s just a collection of crazy and diverse storylines. But that’s the modern family. It’s everywhere, and I think we can expect it to continue in the future. As a West Texas guy myself, I’ve always wanted to see more stories set in the Permian Basin and its gritty oil and gas landscapes. I love those characters. I love that setting. So if we can incorporate more of that into the show, I’m all for it. This definitely provides more opportunities for them to do so by starting small independent companies. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do there and how we can play together.

Is it now confirmed that Sam Elliott will return for season 3?

I think Sam said on the record that he would be back.
