Liverpool suffered a late setback at the City Ground with Florian Wirths removed from the starting lineup minutes before they faced Nottingham Forest and Curtis Jones drafted in.

According to the Nottingham Post, the Germany international was due to start the Premier League game as the Reds continue their bid to qualify for the Champions League.

Wirtz’s absence comes at a pivotal day for both clubs, as he has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers over the past two months. Forest will be looking for some breathing space from the drop zone after West Ham were thwarted by Bournemouth yesterday.

Liverpool are chasing a top-four spot and moved up the table yesterday after Chelsea drew at home to one of their top-four rivals, Burnley.

Today will also be Vitor Pereira’s first home game since taking over from Sean Dyche. He oversaw the 3-0 Europa League win over Fenerbace in midweek.

A win for Forest today would complete their double against Liverpool, who were successful 3-0 earlier in the season.
