Bloomfield will remain in charge with caretaker manager Craig Short remaining in the dugout to watch Friday’s FA Cup third round tie against MK Dons before taking charge next week before visiting Bristol City on January 17.

A statement from Oxford said a decision on Bloomfield’s coaching staff will be made in due course, but the club did not specify the length of Bloomfield’s contract.

Bloomfield added: “I want my team to work hard, attack with purpose and play with a clear identity.”

“Everyone must understand their role, take responsibility and consistently deliver.”
