The 2026 LPGA season begins this week with the Tournament of Champions, and Nelly Korda is gearing up for another shot at No. 1 in the rankings this year. But it’s Korda’s thoughts on another women’s golf league, the WTGL, that is causing controversy this week.
Comment to Beth Ann Nichols of GolfweekKorda expressed “mixed feelings” about the new women’s version of TGL and strongly criticized TGL’s decision to segregate women into a separate league.
Korda slams TGL for continuing to exclude LPGA golfers
In early January, TMRW Sports, which was founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy and operates TGL, announced the creation of a new women’s-only TGL league called WTGL.
At WTGL, LPGA Tour stars will play simulator golf featuring the same technology that TGL debuted at Florida’s SoFi Center last year. TMRW Sports, LPGA, and many other media outlets have announced the participation of female golfers.
But Korda offered the opposite perspective this week. The former world number one player’s main issues with WTGL news include; exclusion of women.
in Interview with Mr. Nichols Korda characterized the decision to create the WTGL rather than add LPGA pros to the existing TGL as a “huge, incredible failure” as he prepares for the LPGA season.
“Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this. I’m surprised that no other girls have come forward about this or that no one is seriously talking about this,” Korda told Nichols this week. “I think it’s a pretty incredible failure for us not to be able to play with the boys team.”
She went on to claim that having men and women competing together would have been “revolutionary” in terms of the growth of golf.
“There’s no better way to grow the game and it would have been revolutionary. I think it was probably the first time men and women were on the same playing field and playing for exactly the same amount of money,” Korda said.
But Korda was quick to explain that while she would like to see more women join the TGL, the creation of the WTGL remains a positive development for women’s golf.
“I have mixed feelings because I also think it’s great to have this opportunity,” Korda said. “I don’t think there’s a downside. I just think it would have been better if we had both together.”
First WTGL participants announced, Nelly Korda absent
On January 19, TMRW Sports announced the first batch of LPGA stars who will participate in the inaugural season of WTGL, tentatively scheduled for the winter of 2026-2027.
The initial announcement featured the following six players: World No.1 Gino Titicletaking over Korda’s top spot in the world rankings in 2025. LPGA veteran and semi-retired professional lexi thompson He was also revealed as a WTGL contestant. Lydia Coe, Charlie Hull and Brooke Henderson. But Korda, the world’s most famous female golfer, was not among them.
This week features young LPGA stars rose chan and Lottie Wardboth former winners of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, also participated in the WTGL. But Corda is still missing.
Nichols asked Korda about his thoughts on competing in the WTGL, and Korda said he was not committed to competing, but was considering it.
“I’m still looking at time commitments. I haven’t really thought about it too much because I’ve been focused on preparing for this season. Logistically, I think they’re still trying to figure out some things. So I’m just looking at my options in the near future,” Korda said.
