A rural Waikato community will not lose its only post office after New Zealand Post admitted it had mistakenly included it on its list of post offices. Approximately 150 sites scheduled to be closed.

However, the state-owned company indicated that the service may face difficulties in the future.

NZ Post announced this week that it will remove 142 service counters from its partner convenience stores, pharmacies and libraries across New Zealand by the end of the year.

A total of 567 post offices nationwide will remain open, with local post offices unaffected.

The Te Kauwhata site was initially listed as scheduled for closure; Embarrassment that sparks From the owner of a local convenience store that operates this service.

For residents, the nearest post office was more than 15 kilometers away.

NZ Post confirmed on Wednesday that the changes would not apply to Te Kauwhata services.

“Their name was posted on our website in error and we have now corrected this and have spoken to them by phone. We remain available and will continue to engage with them as appropriate,” the spokesperson said.

NZ Post said it provided “early visibility into potential long-term plans” for the Te Kauwhata site.

“As part of our prudent and evidence-based approach across our retail network, we are transparent that NZ Post services in the region may move over time as we develop a future retail network that delivers the right services in the right places,” the spokesperson said.

“This plan includes ensuring the right environment is in place to maintain services in the area, rather than withdrawing them.”
