Ludwig Oechslin watches revolve around three main concepts: radically simple watch movements with the fewest possible parts, minimalist dials with an emphasis on clarity, and purposeful, raw industrial touches. The Settimana watch is one of the first two watches designed by Ochslin for his Ochs und Junior brand in 2006, supporting his vision with an ingenious day-of-the-week display powered by an ETA automatic base with Ochslin’s weekday complication, consisting of just four additional components. In 2026, Ochs und Junior will introduce two new 36mm Settimana models with brown and black PVD-coated dials.

Instead of using a traditional date window, Oechslin’s Settimana (Week in Italian) displays the days of the week with a deceptively simple but incredibly graphic system of seven holes drilled into the brass dial, indicated by rotating dots. Starting with Monday, represented by a cut-out circle at 1 o’clock in the center of the dial, the contrasting colored dots advance until Sunday, then resume their trajectory through the cut-out arc.

Settimana’s new dials are made using PVD (physical vapor deposition). This is a vacuum process that deposits a thin layer of evaporated metal particles onto a blank dial, creating a uniform, long-lasting, vibrant surface color and finish.

The sleek black dial features glossy bubblegum pink hour, minute, second, and day dots, while the warm brown dial features gold-tone hands, day dots, and indexes. The black dial has no indexes. True to the brand’s minimalist philosophy, there are no logos or inscriptions printed on the dial.

The two-part round grade 5 titanium case measures 36 mm in diameter, 10.8 mm in height, and weighs just 55 grams. In keeping with the brand’s industrial, tool-like aesthetic, the screw-down crown is oversized, the lugs are straight and short, and the case shows deliberate signs of machining and milling.

Oechslin developed the Settimana’s day-of-the-week module with only four additional components: a brass dial with a functional caseback, a day-of-the-week gear, a triple-function wheel, and a transmission gear. This small module is powered by the hour wheel of the base movement, the reliable and easy-to-maintain ETA 2824-2 top-of-the-line automatic winding. Operating at 28,800vph and delivering a 42-hour power reserve, the date function is suppressed to make room for a weekday module.

The black Settimana PVD comes with a black Ecopell calfskin strap, while the brown version comes with a beige textile strap. Both prices are 2,486 Swiss Francs (including 8.1% Swiss tax) or 2,300 Swiss Francs (export price). You can purchase either Ochs and Junior Website or by email [email protected]. A 50% deposit is required and shipping is expected to take approximately 8 weeks.
