With 18 major attribute types, there is no shortage of compatible combinations of Pokémon. It may seem like this, but for 30 yearsthe Monster Collecting series has tried every combination of these types so far. So the last time a truly new type of Pokémon was introduced was back in 2013, right? Indeed, after numerous installments and remakes of the main series, the well of Pokémon types has dried up.

Surprisingly, that’s not the case.

Actually there is 10 combinations I’ve never seen this before in any Pokemon game. Some of these absences are meaningful. Combos such as Normal/Ice, Normal/Bug, Normal/Rock, and Normal/Steel may just be the second type. “Normal” adds nothing to these descriptions. However, we cannot completely exclude the possibility that they will occur. Hisuian Zoroa and Hisuian Zoroark are both normal/ghost contradictory.

But there are five mashups that are more reasonably available. pokemon winds and wave: Ice/Poison, Ground/Fairy, Bug/Dragon, Rock/Ghost, Fire/Fairy. I know, but some of these inclusions don’t sound right. I could have sworn I’ve seen the Rock/Ghost type before. There’s a haunted flying coffin, for crying out loud.

So what are the chances we’ll see these new type combinations? First of all, we have Fiery Pom-Bon as a potential candidate for the legendary Fire/Fairy combo. Based entirely on its evolutionary beginnings, I’m skeptical that Ponbon will eventually give us a rare monster type. Pombon’s designs have little of the magical, sparkly, or pink feel typical of fairy types. But we also don’t know what direction the design will go.

Back in 2013, I never imagined something like this would happen. Pokemon X and YFennekin would end up looking like a regal witch. Again, based on the Delphix vibe, I expected it to be fire/fairy. But as Charizard fans know, Pokémon design can be deceiving when it comes to typing. And if Popplio proves anything, it’s that Game Freak can and will push the line of evolution into unexpected places. You can’t ignore Pombon’s paintbrush-red tufts of hair. This may suggest a more capricious evolutionary lineage than expected.

Beyond rarity, one of the reasons fans continue to pay attention to Fire/Fairy monsters is that this duo has the potential to produce powerful Pokémon. As our friends at Game Rant point outFire/Fairy Pokémon only have a handful of weaknesses, but a whopping eight resistances. Fire/Fairy is highly effective against seven different types, and is completely immune to at least one. Assuming the creature’s base stats are good, the combination of fire and fairy can be scary. But I’m not too excited. As cool as fire/fairy bonbons can be, and potentially overwhelming, Game Freak is famous for its love of giving us the final starter evolution of Fire/Fight.

Given the theme of the game, it seems reasonable to expect the following legendary people Some type combinations we haven’t seen yet include flying or water types. However, there is reason to be hopeful. through the initials wind and wave In the trailer, we can find biomes such as jungles and volcanic caves. These locations could be good candidates to introduce bugs/dragons, ground/fairies, or other unused types.

However, maybe my imagination is too limited here. For all we know, Game Freak will throw us a curveball and debut an entirely new type of game. pokemon winds and wave. Back in late 2025, the leaker revealed that Game Freak’s internal documents Refers to a new type of monster called Seed Pokémon. “Baby Pokémon of the Tane clan that can be seen at resorts and the like… They are rare in this area, and no one has ever seen them in their evolved form. When they go to the island where the legendary hero lives, they begin to evolve. It is said that there are infinite variations in their evolved forms.”

The points to note here are: pokemon winds and wave is still in production and the leaked documents were never intended for public consumption. Even if Game Freak were toying with something called Seed Pokémon, there’s a good chance the studio would reject it. Game Freak may make the Seed Pokémon behave differently than described. The term may refer to a temporary state, such as a mega-evolver, rather than a permanent affinity. Seed Pokémon may eventually appear, but that will be in a completely different game. However, if “infinite variations” becomes a reality, there may be a limited number of days until the long list of unused Pokemon types is completed.
