Rays and Hillsborough College may clarify stadium idea

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays’ new ownership group’s stadium plans may soon be revealed.

According to Spectrum Bay News 9 partner newspaper Tampa Bay Business JournalThe group may be considering Hillsborough College on Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa as a possible site.

Hillsborough College’s board of directors is scheduled to vote next week to explore that possibility.

The plan reportedly calls for a 110-acre mixed-use district, which is in line with what the Rays’ new owners have said they want.

The university’s board of trustees, which manages the 100-acre campus, had no comment.

The Rays’ lease at Tropicana Field runs through the 2028 season. The team’s new ownership group, led by Jacksonville home builder Patrick Zalopski, aims to have a new stadium built in 2029.
