The Swiss men’s biathlon relay team cannot outdo themselves in Antholz. They finished in eighth place, two and a half minutes behind the winning French quartet.
Initially, things looked good for the Swiss biathlete, who had yet to achieve much at this Winter Olympics. Sebastian Stalder replaced Joscha Burkhalter in fourth place, just 16 seconds behind the leading German. The latter proved stable both on the cross-country course and at the shooting range (two reloads).
Two penalties for Finello
Jeremy Finello was fifth, just 30 minutes behind the top three competitors from France, Finland and Sweden. However, as is often the case, Finello showed a major weakness in standing shots. Five mistakes, or two penalty rounds, dropped Switzerland to 10th place.
The final skier, Niklas Hartweg, was able to catch up with the group fighting for 6th place. In the end, the Swiss quartet finished in 8th place. At the last two world championships, Swiss men finished 6th (2023) and 7th (2025).
France got off to a false start
After a great race to catch up, France won the Olympic gold medal. Starting skier Fabien Claude dropped to 20th and last place after receiving a penalty round for standing fire. Emilian Jacqueline took 13th place and quickly rose to the top.
Five-time Olympic champion Quentin Fillon Mayet and final skier Eric Perrault had little to show for it. The silver went to Norway, 10 seconds behind, and the bronze went to Sweden (57.5 seconds behind).
