Recording videos like TikTok often requires a microphone, but using one isn’t expensive or difficult. The Rode Wireless Micro is neither of those things, but it’s still great.

Your phone may have a great camera, but if you’ve ever recorded video with your phone, you probably know you need a better microphone. Especially when recording people, a dedicated microphone can make a big difference. So you can use the microphone even with regular cameras.

largely It’s like Barney Stinson saying, “Wear a suit.”I try to “mic up” as much as possible. That way, you can be sure of at least one thing in your video: great sound.

There’s clearly no shortage of microphone products these days, but what if you’re looking for something that’s easy, no-nonsense, and does a great job?

One of Rode’s latest products may fit just that requirement. Is the Rode Wireless Micro the microphone we’ve been looking for?

What is Rode Wireless Micro?

Rode’s other compact wireless microphone system, the Wireless Micro, is self-explanatory at first glance. It’s clearly a microphone built to be small, compact, and easy to use.

is slightly different from Wireless Go square microphone and Wireless Pro, these mics tend to offer a bit more sound quality if you need it, and even have a connector for a corded lavalier mic. If you don’t need any of these and just want a small mic that can be used for large and small productions, the Wireless Micro is exactly what it sounds like: a micro version of Rode’s wireless mic.

what does it do?

The kit includes two wireless micro mics, each set to 24-bit 48kHz, which is plenty for clarity. The microphone is no larger than two knuckles, or even one depending on the height of the finger, and can be attached using a clip or magnetic bar, making it easy to attach the microphone to a person.

The size is even smaller than the square Wireless Go model, which is great, but what really makes it easier to use is the fact that there’s no setup required.

When you take it out of the case, it powers on and searches for devices to connect. Whether it’s a cold shoe TX transmitter or a USB-C connector, find it, the LED will light up, and you’re good to go.

Keep recording, human, knowing that the Wireless Micro is doing its job. It’s easy.

does it do the job?

Rode Wireless Micro is hassle-free gear that is easy to set up and start recording right away. Compact and easy to put in your pocket or pack, easily clips to your shirt using a clip or magnet and is ready for use.

Probably the best part is, how It’s easy to work with. It’s ready as soon as you take it out, and can sync with your transmitter in a second or two.

A TX transmitter for your camera gives you more control, including output gain, whether to merge channels, and fine-tuning the brightness of your compact screen. But you can just rely on an app instead of a Type C adapter for your phone. Rode has a suitable adapter for iOS. load capture.

We tested the Rode Wireless Micro and found it to be perfectly capable. without it Rode app, use both final cut camera We used the regular camera app on iOS and the standard Android native camera for testing.

jump between Google pixel 10 pro XL and samsung galaxy z fold 7I found that Samsung turned up the microphone volume more than I expected, but the volume seemed consistent between the Pixel and iPhone. Both iPhone and Pixel owners will be happy to use the Rode Wireless Micro for interviews, video blogs, and more.

The good news is that the Rode Wireless Micro actually keeps working, never really misses a beat, and continues to work without the need for charging.

Technically, you can get up to 21 hours of charging with the rechargeable box, and the microphone itself takes between 5 and 7 hours to charge.

But you probably won’t be using your microphone for hours on end. So you end up charging the microphone with great battery life and it works continuously so that the battery never seems to run out.

The case includes a battery and a magnetic charging point, so just plug in your microphone and take the case with you. There’s no wireless charger (which is a welcome addition, but feels completely unnecessary), but the USB-C on the back makes the whole experience easier.

The USB-C dongle works with iOS and Android, as does the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL (above).

What do you need?

The Rode Wireless Micro Camera Kit includes a USB-C dongle in the box, but surprisingly there’s no place to store it, which is one of the confusing aspects.

If you alternate between capturing with a dedicated camera using a cold shoe and cable, and capturing with your phone, the fact that the Rode Wireless Micro charging box can’t house both a USB-C connector and a Tx transmitter is surprising. If you’re doing both, make it a little longer.

You shouldn’t keep your USB-C dongle in a case like this, but it’s okay. of seeds.

Oddly enough, if you take out the cold shoe Tx transmitter, you can actually leave it in the case. You can attach a USB-C receiver there, but it’s still only loosely attached.

Rode is creating a version of the case just There’s a USB-C dongle (no transmitter for regular cameras), a molded section to safely store a USB-C dongle, but this one doesn’t. Hmm.

Is it worth the money?

Despite all that nonsense, there’s no doubt that the Rode Wireless Micro is one of the near-perfect experiences you’ll get for your money.

If you need a camera transmitter, the $250 price tag isn’t bad, but if you don’t need one and can just use the technology for your phone, $170 for two microphones and a USB-C dongle is an incredible value.

The Rode technically competes with DJI’s Mic Mini here, and it’s similarly priced, making it an obvious choice for the next card to try, but the quality each offers means you’ll likely find a brand you like. Belkin also offers Option with tripod and mountSo you clearly have a choice here.

At $170, the Rode Wireless Micro hits the mark and offers a solid choice in the sub-$200 price range. If you need a camera transmitter, $250 isn’t too expensive.

Yeah or no?

Rode’s addition to the compact content creation space is an absolute winner, offering everything you need and nothing you don’t.

It’s small and sturdy, making it the obvious go-to product for anyone who needs better sound than a cell phone or camera, and it’s easy to incorporate into your life. Highly recommended.
