Sam Altman and Elon Musk’s feud intensifies as founders argue

Sam Altman and Elon Musk are at it again, with the tech giants taking aim at each other in a series of heated posts about X.

Musk appeared to start the latest escalation early Tuesday morning when he posted, “Please don’t let your loved ones use ChatGPT,” in response to a post that read: “Please don’t let your loved ones use ChatGPT.” OpenAI chatbot use linked to 9 deaths From children to adults since its release in 2022.

Altman first defended ChatGPT and OpenAI’s desire to protect users, then fired back by criticizing Tesla’s Autopilot technology as unsafe.

“This is really difficult. We need to protect vulnerable users while also ensuring that guardrails allow all users to benefit from the tools,” Altman said.

Altman continued, calling on autopilot.

“I’ve only been in a car with it once a while back, and my first thought was that it’s not the safest thing Tesla would ever release,” he wrote. “We’re not even going to start with some of Grok’s decisions.”

Altman added, “You’ve been thinking, ‘Every accusation is a confession.'”

Representatives for Musk and Altman did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.

The social media feud comes as the two companies are in the midst of a long legal battle over OpenAI’s nonprofit status. Musk sued Altman and other leaders at OpenAI, claiming they misled him when they decided to pursue a for-profit organization and steered the company away from its original nonprofit mission.

Musk said he donated $38 million to OpenAI when it was founded as a nonprofit organization.
