Samsung announces new Bixby in One UI 8.5 – Samsung Global Newsroom

Samsung Electronics today announced beta program For the latest version of Bixby,1 Upgraded to work as a conversational device agent. This update makes interacting with Galaxy devices more intuitive as users can easily ask what they want through natural language. Plus, it expands your access to the latest answers from the open web.

“Since introducing our first AI phone in 2024, we have focused on making AI phones easier to use so that more people can benefit from AI. That’s why we decided to integrate device agents directly into the experience,” said Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of Mobile Experience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “To support this, we redesigned Bixby to enable more natural interactions and intuitive device control, reducing friction in everyday tasks.”

Intuitive device control with natural conversation

Bixby allows users to control and interact with Galaxy devices using natural language without requiring precise setting names or commands. Users do not need to learn the structure of device menus or remember specific terminology to perform operations. In your own words, you can easily explain what you want or ask what is happening on your device. Bixby understands that intent and takes appropriate action, reducing the time and effort required to manage day-to-day device settings and features.

For example, a user can say, “I don’t want to time out while looking at the screen.” Bixby understands the request and immediately turns on the “Stay screen on while viewing” setting without the user having to interact with the settings or know the exact name of the feature.

Rather than providing general instructions, Bixby can also identify your device’s current settings and suggest various possible solutions. This reduces trial and error and allows you to complete tasks faster, even if you are not familiar with the device or its features.

When a user asks, “Why is my screen always on when my phone is in my pocket?” Bixby uses the context of the situation to show you relevant settings, such as accidental contact prevention, so you can turn them on directly.

Real-time web search function

Bixby also supports real-time web search functionality. Now you have access to live updates and results are displayed within Bixby’s own user interface. This means people can explore topics and get answers to their questions as part of one consistent, seamless experience.2 Without being redirected to another browser or app, users can find what they need faster and stay focused on the task at hand.

For example, a user can say to Bixby, “Find a hotel in Seoul with a children’s pool.” Bixby processes requests and provides relevant web search results directly within the interface, allowing users to explore available options without interruption or delay.
