Sedan sales in India in December 2025 were 31,985 units, recording a year-on-year growth of 2.91% compared to December 2024. However, on a month-on-month basis, the segment decreased by 8.72% compared to November 2025, indicating a slowdown in demand towards the end of the year.

Sedan sales volume December 2025

Malti Dzire remains the undisputed leader in the sedan segment, clocking 19,072 units in December 2025. This represents a year-over-year growth of 15.08%, despite a month-over-month sales decline of 9.53%. The Dzire alone accounts for well over half of total sedan sales, underscoring its continued mass-market appeal.

Hyundai Aura emerged as the second best-selling sedan with sales of 4,925 units, registering a healthy growth of 27.86% year-on-year. Similar to Dzire, Aura also reflected the overall market slowdown in December, dropping 14.06% month-on-month. In contrast, Honda Amaze recorded 2,575 units, down 30.56 percent year-on-year and 6.80 percent month-on-month, making it one of the weaker performers in the compact sedan category.

Midsize sedans show diverse trends

Among mid-size sedans, the Volkswagen Virtus recorded 2,378 units, an increase of 5.36% year-on-year and 6.88% month-on-month, making it one of the few models to grow on both counts. Honda City recorded 943 units, an increase of 20.43% year-on-year and a significant 55.87% month-on-month increase, indicating improved demand compared to November.

On the other hand, sales of Skoda Slavia decreased significantly to 711 units, a decrease of 62.46% from the previous year and a decrease of 36.52% from the previous month. Hyundai Verna also struggled, with 406 units sold, down 53.44% from the previous year and 42.74% from the previous month.

Entry EV sedan and premium model

Tata Tigor/EV recorded 775 units, a decrease of 26.47% from the previous year, but due to the low base in November, it showed a strong growth of 58.81% from the previous month. In the premium segment, Toyota Camry sold 200 units, with sales down 9.91% month-on-month, but with a 127.27% year-on-year growth, sales more than doubled. Skoda Octavia reported zero deliveries in December 2025, compared to 94 units in November.

Although sedan sales managed to post a modest year-on-year increase in December 2025, the sharp month-on-month decline highlights the heterogeneity of demand across models and segments. Compact sedans such as the Dzire and Aura continued to grow in sales, but results for midsize sedans were mixed. Overall, the data suggests that sedans remain a niche but stable segment, with performance relying heavily on a small number of high-volume nameplates.
