Canada’s Denis Shapovalov hit 22 aces to defeat American Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-4 at the Dallas Open Tennis Tournament on Thursday.

Shapovalov, the No. 7 seed from Richmond Hill, Ont., dominated on serve with just one double fault in the match. Kovacevic committed two double faults and had only four aces left.

Shapovalov also made the only break of the contest.

Shapovalov will face third-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain in Friday’s quarterfinals.
