Irish Social Care: Thousands eligible for €2,000 grant as payment date confirmed

Recipients are free to use their €2,000 grant in any way they wish

The Carer Support Grant will be distributed to thousands of people in the coming months, with payment dates now officially confirmed.

grant This is an annual benefit designed to recognize the hard work and dedication of people who provide full-time care for their loved ones. And those who receive it are allowed to use it as they see fit.

People who receive three specific payments from the Department of Social Protection will automatically receive the Carer Support Grant, but others are equally entitled and can submit an application.

Here’s everything you need to know, including a complete list of who can apply for the grant.

What is the Caregiver Support Grant?

The Carer Support Grant is providing significant assistance to many carers across the country and will be distributed on the first Thursday of June (5 June).

The Carer Support Grant is distributed to carers annually by the Department of Social Protection (DSP). Reportedly formerly known as Respite Care Grant Live RSVP.

This grant is available to all carers who care full-time for an elderly person or person with a disability, regardless of means or social security contributions.

You can use the grant as you wish. It can be used to pay for respite care, but it doesn’t have to be used.

Some people use grants for goods and services directly related to their care, while others use them to cover more common day-to-day expenses such as utilities.

When will I be paid?

Caregiver support money will be provided The first Thursday of June (June 4th).

Complete list of people who can claim the subsidy

The Career’s Support Grant will be automatically distributed on the first Thursday of June to anyone receiving one of the following payments:

  • Nursing care allowance (full amount/half amount)
  • Welfare benefits for caregivers
  • Home care allowance.

The Career’s Support Grant is not a means-tested payment.

If you haven’t received these payments, you may still be eligible for the Carer’s Support Grant.

You must be:

  • 16+
  • usually resides in Ireland
  • Caring for the person full-time
  • Be a caregiver for at least 6 months (6 months must include the first Thursday in June)
  • You live with the person receiving your care (if not, you must meet certain criteria; for example, the person must be able to contact you directly directly)

During this six-month care period, you may not:

  • Work more than 18.5 hours per week (as an employee or self-employed)
  • Attend more than 18.5 hours of education or training courses per week
  • Receive Jobseeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit
  • Sign on for credited contributions
  • Reside in a hospital, nursing home, or similar facility

If your baby or child is admitted to a hospital or other institution for treatment, you may be eligible for a Carer’s Support Grant. To receive the grant, your baby or child must: Home care allowance.

How much is the Carer Support Grant?

In 2026, the Carer Support Grant will be €2,000. The carer support grant for 2024 was €1,850.

What if I care for more than one person?

If you are caring for more than one person, a subsidy will be paid for each person you care for.

How to apply

If you receive Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or Home Care Allowance, you do not need to apply for Carer Support Grant. The amount will be automatically deposited in June.

But IIf you have not received the above payment, please complete the following steps: Caregiver Support Subsidy Application Form (CSG1) For each person you care for.

Application forms are available at local Intreo Centers, Social Welfare Branches, and Citizen Information Centers.
