
Availability of Sony Xperia handsets has decreased over the past few years, but owners of the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 IV may be pleased to hear that support for LineageOS is now available on their hardware.
Released in 2022, the duo manages to pack classic, almost throwback hardware, including a microSD card slot, while offering a unique 21:9 aspect ratio for Android. Sadly, Sony isn’t always the best at updating its devices, but nevertheless, the last official OTA for the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 5 IV is stable as of early 2026. Android15 release.
It is unlikely that you will get it on either device. Details about recent Android 16 updateswhich means this could be the way to update your phone to the latest release. LineageOS 23.0 gives Sony Xperia 1 IV and 5 IV a way to get a more recent Android 16 update, paving the way for the Material 3 Expressive update in the coming months once certain hurdles are overcome. That is, a slow trickle of AOSP builds for the latest update from Google.
Effectively, this means that the significant visual refresh added in Android 16 QPR1 is not yet available via LineageOS at this time. The 23.0 build is based on last year’s June release. There are no major cosmetic changes in this update, which is still technically limited to the Pixel lineup. That said, it’s unlikely that Sony will provide any more major updates to the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 5 IV, so LineageOS 23.0 is a great way to keep these phones going a little longer.
