(Smyrna, Delaware) – Gov. Matthew Meyer has issued a Level 3 Driving Restriction Order for Kent and Sussex Counties starting at 10 p.m., and a Level 2 Driving Restriction Order for New Castle County starting from 10 p.m. This state-mandated driving ban will remain in place to minimize non-essential travel during inclement weather and hazardous road conditions and to protect the safety of emergency responders and other essential drivers.
- Level 3 driving prohibited This means that when a Level 3 Driving Ban is activated, no person may drive a motor vehicle on Delaware roadways except those designated as essential personnel, including first responders, first callers, and snow removal equipment operators employed or contracted by “public utilities,” public or private entities. All businesses, professional offices, organizations, associations, etc. are encouraged to take appropriate protective measures to protect their citizens, customers and employees by ceasing operations or sheltering in place. An employer, whether public or private, may not terminate, reprimand, discipline, or take any form of adverse employment action against an employee who fails or refuses to report to work while the driving ban is pending as a result of a Level 3 driving ban. Any person or entity that violates an activated level 3 driving ban may be subject to penalties.
- Level 2 driving restrictions For New Castle County– When a Level 2 driving restriction is in effect, no motor vehicle may be operated on Delaware roadways except by persons designated as essential personnel, including employed snow removal equipment operators, snow removal equipment operators contracted by public or private entities, or designations already approved through the Delaware Office of Emergency Management’s Emergency Driving Exemption Program.
